1988 Happy Holiday Barbie
1988 was the introduction of the first of a very successful line for Barbie called the Happy Holiday collection.
The amazing thing about this collection is it started as a simple festive doll that represented the holidays and was to be produced for the Christmas season. The quality of the collection has increased over time with many dolls in the holiday series designed by famous designers like Bob Macke.
The fact that the first doll which was introduced by Mattel for mass production and not intended for exclusivity and it still by far is the most valuable and collectable demonstrates that value is determined by the market not the cost to manufacture the dollm.
The 1988 Happy Holiday Barbie with her simple red gown and ornament style box in the right condition can still demand a price tag ranging from $500 to &800 and even higher if MIB or NRFB grade.
